Chapel of St Apolline

The chapel of St Apolline stands on a roadside in St Saviour, a single stone room licensed in 1394 and dedicated to the patron saint of toothache, and it holds fragments of medieval wall painting including a Last Supper, faded but legible. It was used as a barn for centuries before restoration. It is the only surviving medieval chapel in the island still consecrated. It is sometimes called the Chapel of St Mary of the Perelle, which is the dedication it was licensed under before the toothache saint attached herself to it. The building passed through private hands for centuries and was bought by the States of Guernsey in 1873.
