Vieux-Fort Lighthouse
A lighthouse on the southern point of Basse-Terre, with a view across the channel to Les Saintes.

The lighthouse at Vieux-Fort stands on the southernmost point of Basse-Terre, on a headland of low cliffs with the channel to Les Saintes opening beyond it and Dominica visible on a clear day. The village below has a lace-making tradition, and the point is a windy open place with a small fort site nearby. The current running through the channel here is strong and the sea is rarely calm.

When to go
December to April is the driest and clearest. Wind on the point is constant. Mornings give the best chance of seeing Dominica.
What to expect
The lighthouse tower is not open to visitors. The point is exposed with strong wind and no shade. Currents in the channel below are dangerous.
