Vogtsbauernhof Open-Air Museum

The Vogtsbauernhof itself was built in 1612 and has never been moved; the museum grew around it from 1964 by dismantling farmhouses from across the Black Forest and rebuilding them here, so the site shows the regional house types together, from the huge hipped-roof farms with living quarters, byre and hay floor under one roof to smaller upland types. Mills, a sawmill, a bakehouse, a distillery and workshops operate on the site, and livestock of old breeds is kept. Craft demonstrations run through the day. The characteristic deep-eaved roof was thatched in straw and shingle and needed the whole household to maintain.
