Kinchkha Waterfall

The Kinchkha falls drop in stages down a limestone face in the hills beyond Okatse, with the main fall running around a hundred metres over a mossy cliff into a pool, and a wooden platform built on the opposite side of the valley gives the view across. It is usually visited together with the Okatse canyon walkway, since both are reached from the same road out of Gordi. Flow depends heavily on rain and snowmelt: in spring the falls are full and loud, and by late summer they can thin to a fraction of that. The last part of the road is rough, and most visitors come by hired taxi from Kutaisi with the two sites combined.

• Spring snowmelt flow - the falls at their fullest.

When to go

April to June, when snowmelt and rain fill the river; by August the falls are much reduced. Two to three hours combined with Okatse. The road in is rough.

Practical notes

Late summer flow is disappointing and many visitors arrive to a trickle. The last kilometres of road need a capable vehicle. Facilities are minimal. It is usually seen only from across the valley.
