Verla is a small groundwood pulp and board mill by a river rapids that closed in 1964 and was preserved exactly as it stood, machines, workers' houses and all. A UNESCO site, it is one of the best surviving examples of a rural industrial community from the great age of Nordic forestry, seen on a guided tour.
