Lahti Ski Jumps

Three ski jumping hills stand on the Salpausselka ridge above Lahti and are visible from most of the town, the largest of them a big hill used for World Cup competition. The Salpausselka Games have been held here since 1923 and are among the fixed events of the Nordic skiing season, filling the slopes below the jumps with spectators every winter. A lift runs to the top of the large hill in summer and winter for the view over the town and Lake Vesijarvi, and the ski museum at the base covers the history of skiing in Finland, with jumping and biathlon simulators. The surrounding area carries cross-country trails used year round.

When to go

Year round; the Games fall in late winter and fill the town. Two to three hours. The lift has seasonal hours and closes in high wind.

Honest expectations

The lift closes in wind and its hours vary by season. The museum is dated in places. During competitions the area is closed to general visitors or ticketed. It is a sports facility, not a landscape attraction.
