Shewula Mountain Camp

Shewula sits on the top of the Lubombo plateau on the eastern edge of Eswatini, a camp owned and run by the community around it and the first community tourism project set up in the country. Huts stand along the escarpment edge with the whole lowveld laid out below and Mozambique beyond it. Guided walks go out with local people to the villages, the medicinal plants and the homesteads.

When to go

May to September is dry and cooler. Summer nights on the plateau are warm but the days are hot. The road up is difficult after rain.

Honest expectations

Accommodation is simple with shared facilities and no frills. The road up is steep and rough and low cars struggle. Meals are basic and must be arranged in advance.
