Lago A Pot

Lago A Pot fills a crater in the interior of Annobón, a small dark lake with steep forested walls around it, reached on a walk up from San Antonio de Palé through cultivation and then forest. It is the island's only substantial body of fresh water. The rim above gives views over the whole island and out to the Atlantic on every side, which on an island this small is most of the point.

When to go

June to September is the drier season and the path is more manageable. Rain makes the climb slippery. The lake is there year round.

Honest expectations

Reaching Annobón at all is the hard part and requires a permit. The path up is steep and muddy. There are no facilities on the island beyond the town.
