Krapje

Krapje was designated a village of architectural heritage in 1995, and what is protected is a way of building: two-storey houses of oak, raised on posts against flooding, with the gable end turned to the street and an external staircase to the upper floor, ranged along a single road with the barns behind. Oak was available in quantity from the Sava forests and the technique was carpentry rather than masonry - the houses are pegged and jointed. Many have been repaired with park support; some are still deteriorating, which is the honest picture of a village of this kind. The park's field station is here.

Things to know

These are private houses, not a museum - most cannot be entered. Some are in visible disrepair. Services in the village are minimal. The park roads are narrow and can be closed by water.
