South Island

The atoll's southern rim carries its biggest empty islet: South Island, coconut groves and shallows-fringed sand where West Island's day trips land by boat and motorised canoe for the picnic wilderness - shade camps under the palms, lagoon flats warm to the horizon, reef-edge snorkelling where the shallows deepen, and the plantation era's traces (wells, clearings) softening into green. The crossing itself tours the lagoon's colour chart; the islet's day asks self-sufficiency and sun sense; and the return against the trades supplies the sailing-adjacent finale. The island closes the southern end of the atoll ring and is the largest of the uninhabited ones.
