Scout Park Beach

Scout Park sits on the lagoon side of West Island, a stretch of sand with shade trees behind it, picnic tables and shelters, and shallow calm water in front because the island itself takes the swell on the other side. It is the standard family beach on West Island and where people go when the ocean side is unusable. Kitesurfers launch from along this shore when the trade wind is up.

When to go

April to October is drier with steadier trade winds, which is also the kitesurfing season. Tide governs the flats. The wet season brings heavier weather.

Honest expectations

The water is very shallow and swimming means walking a long way out at low tide. Facilities are picnic shelters and nothing more. Kitesurfers and swimmers share the same water at times.
