Teza Tea Plantations

Teza sits at around two thousand metres on the edge of the Kibira forest, one of Burundi's main tea estates, with the bushes running across the hills in the tight clipped rows tea makes and the forest wall standing directly behind them. A factory processes the leaf on site. Tea is one of the country's few export earners and the altitude here is what makes the quality.

When to go

June to September is the dry season and easiest for travel. Plucking runs year round with peaks after the rains. Factory visits must be arranged.

Honest expectations

Factory visits need arranging in advance and are not always granted. Mist and rain are frequent at this altitude even in the dry season. There are no visitor facilities.
