The Kota falls drop in stages down a rock face in the hills near Natitingou, with a pool at the foot and wooded slopes around, reached on a short walk from where the track ends. Like everything on this escarpment the flow depends entirely on the rains: substantial from September into December, thin or absent by March. It is the closer of the two waterfalls near Natitingou and the easier to reach.

What you actually see

  • The staged fall - the water dropping in steps down the rock face.
  • The pool - the basin at the foot, used for swimming.
  • The wooded slopes - the vegetation around the falls.
  • The short walk - the easy approach from where the track ends.

When to go

September to December has the strongest flow after the rains. By March the falls can be almost dry. The rains make the track difficult.

Honest expectations

By late in the dry season there may be almost nothing to see. Bilharzia is a risk in the pool. The track in is rough and needs a suitable vehicle.

Nearby

Natitingou is south, and Tanougou Falls are north.
