South Point lighthouse stands on the southern tip of Barbados, a cast-iron tower with red and white bands that was made in London, shown at the Great Exhibition of 1851 and then shipped out and erected here in 1852, which makes it the oldest of the island's lighthouses. It sits low on a flat point with the sea on three sides and Oistins a short way along the coast. Barbados has four lighthouses in total, one at each of the cardinal points of the island.

When to go
December to May is the dry season. Late afternoon light on the tower is best. Wind on the point is constant.
Honest expectations
The tower is closed and the visit is exterior only. It sits in a developed area with buildings close by. An hour is generous.
