When to go

Year-round for a taste of the island's warm culture, but the Aruba Carnival season, running through January and February and building to grand parades, is the most spectacular and colourful time to experience the island's music, costume and celebration. Cultural events, music and the friendly local hospitality can be enjoyed at any time.

Honest expectations

Much of Aruba's tourism is beach-and-resort focused, so experiencing the deeper local culture, beyond the friendly hospitality, means seeking out Carnival, local neighbourhoods, festivals and cultural sites rather than the resort strip; the aloe and cultural attractions are modest. Approached with curiosity, though, Aruba's warm melting-pot culture, its unique Papiamento language, vibrant Carnival and genuinely famous friendliness are a delightful and enriching side of the One Happy Island.
