Jale Beach

Jale is a compact bay below the village of Vuno on the Albanian Riviera, a curve of pale pebble between two rocky headlands with clear water and a steep wooded slope behind. It was a quiet camping beach into the 2000s and has since become one of the main summer party destinations on the coast, with beach clubs, bars, campsites and a festival crowd in July and August, so its character now depends entirely on when you go: in June and September it is a pleasant small bay, and at peak it is loud until very late. Snorkelling around the headlands is good. The village of Vuno above, a stone settlement of narrow lanes with a church, is a different world twenty minutes up the hill.

When to go

June to September; June and September for quiet, July and August for the party season, which are entirely different experiences. A day, or several as a base. Most places close by October.

Honest expectations

In peak season the music runs until dawn and quiet is impossible. The bay is small and fills completely. Development has been rapid and unregulated. Sunbed charges take up most of the beach. Access from the coast road is steep.
