Brändö

Brändö is a string of islands at Åland's northeastern corner, joined by bridges and short ferries, and it is the closest part of the territory to the Finnish mainland, thirty minutes from Osnäs. The landscape is low rock, pine and small fields with water always in view. Fishing and fish farming are the main industries. It is the route most people take driving between Finland and Åland. The municipality covers well over a thousand islands and skerries, of which only a handful are inhabited.

When to go

June to August is the season with services open. Winter reduces everything to a minimum. Ice can disrupt the short ferries in hard winters.

Honest expectations

Almost everything closes outside the summer. It functions largely as a transit route rather than a destination. Accommodation is very limited and books up in July.
