Oued Jenna

Oued Jenna is a dry valley in the far south of the territory, inland along the road toward Aousserd, and the acacia growing along it makes a line of cover through otherwise open desert. That cover is why birdwatchers come: species that are difficult to see anywhere else in this part of the world turn up here, and the valley is one of the known stops on the route across the region.

What you actually see

• The acacia line - the trees following the dry watercourse.
• The desert birds - species hard to find elsewhere in the region.
• The open hamada - the flat stony ground on either side.
• The dry valley - a watercourse that runs only after rare rain.

When to go

November to March is cooler and the birding is best. Summer heat here is extreme. Rain is rare and the valley is dry almost always.

Honest expectations

It is a long drive from Dakhla with nothing along the way and no facilities at the site. A properly equipped vehicle and local guidance are needed. Birds are the whole point; there is nothing else to see.
