Tam Thanh Mural Village

In 2016 a group of Korean and Vietnamese artists, under a community exchange programme, painted murals on the walls of houses in this fishing village outside Tam Ky - portraits of residents, boats, fish and scenes - and the village became a destination almost immediately. A second project added the boat lane, where old thung chai basket boats were painted and mounted along a street. The paint has weathered in the salt air and some murals have faded or been repainted, and the honest position is that the project has aged: it worked as an intervention, brought income, and is now maintained unevenly.

February to August; the monsoon runs from about September. Half a day.

Honest expectations

Many murals have faded badly in the sea air and some are gone. It is a working fishing village and people live behind the painted walls. There is little else to do. The beach nearby is undeveloped.
