K50 Waterfall

Hang En, usually called K50, drops around fifty metres into a pool in the Kon Chu Rang nature reserve in Gia Lai, in forest that is genuinely remote - the fall was listed simply as Waterfall 50 in a survey of the reserve in 1999. Getting there is the whole difficulty: a long rough track from Kbang that needs a capable vehicle or a motorbike with a rider who knows it, then a walk down through forest to the pool, with a guide required by the reserve. Swallows are said to nest in the recess behind the water, which is where the Vietnamese name, swallow cave, comes from. Camping at the fall is arranged through the reserve.

When to go

November to April; the wet season makes the track impassable. A full day or overnight.

What to expect

The access is genuinely difficult and people underestimate it - this is not a roadside waterfall. Permission and a guide must be arranged with the reserve. There are no facilities. Leeches in the forest are constant.
