Andijan lies at the eastern end of the Fergana valley and is best known as the birthplace of Babur, who was pushed out of Central Asia and went on to found the Mughal dynasty in India, leaving an autobiography that is among the frankest written by any ruler. A memorial park on a hill above the city commemorates him. The Jome mosque and madrasa complex of the nineteenth century survives, and an earthquake in 1902 destroyed most of the older city.

Honest expectations
Very little survives from before the 1902 earthquake. The Babur memorial is a modern construction with no original fabric. The city has limited facilities for visitors.
