Yasinia Wooden Church

The Church of Our Lady of the Ascension at Yasinia, usually called the Strukivska church, was built in 1824 in the Hutsul manner: a cross plan of five equal parts with a single dome over the crossing, quite different from the stepped Boyko roofs further west. It stands on a knoll above the village with a separate gate bell tower. It is one of the sixteen wooden tserkvas inscribed together as World Heritage in 2013.

When to go

May to October is the comfortable season. The church is locked outside services and a keyholder opens it on request. Winter brings heavy snow to the valley.

Honest expectations

Access inside depends on finding the keyholder and is not guaranteed. Yasinia is a long drive from anywhere. Modern building around the church has crowded its setting.
