The church of St Michael the Archangel at Uzhok was built in 1745 in the Boyko style, which means three sections in a line under stepped pyramidal roofs rising towards the centre, built of horizontal logs on stone footings and clad in shingle, with a separate bell tower. It is one of sixteen wooden tserkvas inscribed together as World Heritage across Poland and Ukraine in 2013. It stands above the village near the pass into Slovakia.

- The stepped roofs - three pyramidal roofs rising towards the centre, the Boyko signature.
- The log construction - horizontal timbers with complex corner jointing, shingle-clad.
- The bell tower - a separate timber tower beside the church.
- The setting - a graveyard and fence enclosing the church above the village.
When to go
May to October is the comfortable season. The church is locked and a keyholder in the village opens it; asking takes time. Winter access up the valley can be difficult.
Honest expectations
The church is usually locked and getting inside depends on finding the keyholder. Uzhok is remote, about two hours from Uzhhorod. There is no interpretation on site.
