Half Moon Bay

Half Moon Bay is a crescent of white sand on the uninhabited cays between Providenciales and Water Cay, reached only by boat, with shallow turquoise water on one side and low dune and scrub behind. Rock iguanas, found only in these islands, live on the neighbouring cays. It is the standard half-day boat trip from Providenciales and is usually shared with several other boats. The sand bar joining the two cays shifts with storms and the shape of the bay changes between years.

What you actually see

• The crescent sand - the curve of white beach on the uninhabited cay.
• The shallow water - the turquoise flats around the bay.
• The rock iguanas - the endemic lizards on the neighbouring cays.
• The boat access - the only way to reach the beach.

When to go

December to April is the dry high season. Boat trips run daily in season. Wind cancels crossings at times.

Honest expectations

It is on every boat itinerary and several boats can be there at once. There are no facilities of any kind. The iguanas are protected and should not be fed or handled.
