Cap Angela

Cap Angela is the northernmost point of mainland Africa, a rocky headland north of Bizerte, and although the neighbouring Ras Ben Sakka long held the title, surveying settled it here. A monument and a stone globe were put up at the point in the 2010s to mark it. The setting is bare cliff and scrub with the Mediterranean on three sides, and there is nothing else there, which is much of the appeal.

• The emptiness - a headland with no development of any kind.

When to go

April to June and September to October are the most comfortable. Winter brings strong wind and rain on the exposed point. Mornings are clearest.

Honest expectations

The track out to the point is rough and the last stretch is on foot. There are no facilities, shade or water. It is a geographical marker rather than a scenic destination.
