Turure Watersteps
A stream running down a staircase of pale calcite terraces in the forest of the Northern Range.

The Turure river runs over a series of pale terraces built up by calcium carbonate deposited from the water, so the stream descends in a staircase of shallow basins and steps, an unusual formation in Trinidad. The rock is smooth and people climb up the steps in the water. A short walk from the road on the Cumaca side reaches it, through forest with plenty of birdlife along the way.

When to go
January to May is driest and safest. In the wet season the river rises fast and the rock is dangerous. Weekends bring more visitors.

The rock is extremely slippery and falls are common. The river rises quickly after rain in the hills. The road in is rough and there are no facilities.
