Paria Bay and Waterfall

Paria Bay lies on the north coast east of Blanchisseuse with no road to it: the way in is a forest trail of about two hours each way, or a boat along the coast. The beach is a wide arc of sand with no development at all, and a further walk inland reaches Paria Falls, which drops into a deep pool that is the usual swimming spot. A natural rock arch stands at the eastern end of the bay.

When to go

January to May is the dry season and the best for the trail. The wet season makes the path muddy and the rivers high. Leatherbacks nest on the beach between March and August.

Honest expectations

The trail is two hours each way and involves river crossings that rise after rain. There are no facilities at all and everything must be carried. Boat access depends on sea conditions.
