Brasso Seco

Brasso Seco sits high in the Northern Range on the road between Arima and Blanchisseuse, a small village that was a cocoa and coffee settlement and has organised itself around community tourism: local guides take walkers to waterfalls and along the forest trails, cocoa is processed and made into chocolate in the village, and homestays and a small visitor centre operate. Trails from here reach Paria, Double River Falls and the north coast.

When to go

January to May is driest and best for the trails. The wet season makes the roads and paths difficult. Tours should be arranged in advance with the village association.

Good to know

The road up is narrow and winding and takes longer than the distance suggests. Guides and tours need arranging ahead rather than dropping in. Accommodation is homestay standard.
