Mount Titlis

Titlis reaches 3,238 metres, the highest summit of the range north of the Susten Pass, and carries a glacier, which is why it is open for snow all year. The last stage of the lift is the Rotair, opened in 1992 and the first rotating cable car in the world: the cabin turns through a full revolution during the five-minute crossing of the glacier, so every passenger gets the whole panorama without moving. At the top there is a glacier cave cut into the ice, a viewing terrace, and the Titlis Cliff Walk, a suspension footbridge about a hundred metres long hanging some five hundred metres above the drop. The glacier is retreating and is partly covered with reflective sheeting in summer to slow the melt, which is visible from the lift.

Before you go

This is a heavily engineered, expensive attraction rather than a mountain experience - queues at the lifts are long in season and the summit building is crowded. Cloud below the top is common and there are no refunds. Altitude affects some visitors. The cave is short.
