Iseltwald

Iseltwald is a village of a few hundred people on a small peninsula on the southern shore of Lake Brienz, with a harbour, the Schloss Seeburg and a shoreline path. Its recent history is a case study in what one screen appearance can do: the Korean series Crash Landing on You used the wooden jetty here in a scene, and from 2020 the village was overwhelmed by visitors coming to photograph it - so many that the commune installed a coin-operated turnstile charging five francs for access to the jetty, an unusual measure that made international news. The Giessbach falls are across the water, the shore path runs to them, and the village otherwise remains quiet outside the jetty.

Honest expectations

The jetty is ticketed and queued at peak times, which surprises people. Parking in the village is very limited and enforced. Outside the jetty area there is little infrastructure. The lake water is cold.
