Mancheonha Skywalk

Mancheonha sits on a bluff above a tight bend of the Namhan River in Danyang, and the structure is a spiral ramp climbing a steel tower to three horseshoe-shaped platforms cantilevered out over the drop, the outer ends floored in glass about eighty metres above the water. The walk up the ramp is gradual and the ramp itself is the design feature - it wraps the tower so the view opens by degrees. From the top the river bends back on itself between wooded ridges, which is the shot. The site has since added an alpine coaster running down the hillside and a zipline, both ticketed separately, plus a cafe. A shuttle runs from the lower car park; walking up is possible but steep. Danyang markets itself heavily on views and caves, and this is the centrepiece of that. Closed in high wind.

When to go

April to June and October; autumn colour on the ridges is the peak. Weekday mornings are quieter. Closed in high wind and ice.

Honest expectations

Ticketed, with the coaster and zipline extra. The glass floor is difficult for anyone with a fear of heights. It is a viewpoint - an hour, plus the shuttle wait at busy times.
