Maydh is a small village on the Gulf of Aden coast below the Cal Madow escarpment, an old port that traded across the gulf for centuries and now holds a few hundred people. The tomb of Sheikh Isaaq, the figure from whom the Isaaq clan traces descent, stands in the village and is a place of pilgrimage. The escarpment rises steeply behind and an islet sits offshore. The village is one of the oldest continuously settled points on this coast and appears in medieval Arab geographies.

When to go
October to April is the cooler season. Summer on this coast is extremely hot. The track down the escarpment is difficult after rain.
Honest expectations
The track down from Erigavo is steep and rough and needs four wheel drive. The shrine is an active religious site and behaviour matters. There are no facilities.
