Robanov Kot

Robanov Kot is one of the three glacial valleys that cut north from the upper Savinja into the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, and it has been a protected landscape since 1950, one of the earliest such designations in the country. It is narrower and quieter than Logar Valley next door: a flat meadow floor with scattered farms, walls of rock rising on both sides, and a gravel track running to the head where the walking paths start. The Roban farm at the entrance gave it its name.

What you actually see

• The flat valley floor - meadow and scattered farms between rock walls.
• The protection date - a landscape park since 1950, among the country's first.
• The Roban homestead - the farm at the valley mouth that named the valley.
• The valley head - the cirque where the paths climb towards the ridge.

When to go

May to October; the meadows are at their best in June. Autumn colour comes in October. The valley holds snow later than the main Savinja valley.

Honest expectations

There is less here than in Logar Valley: no waterfall of note and fewer facilities. The track is gravel and rough in places. Farms along it are private and working.
