The Premonstratensians have been at Jasov since the twelfth century, and the complex that stands now was built between 1750 and 1766: a long Baroque range with a church whose interior was frescoed by Johann Lucas Kracker, and a library of some eighty thousand volumes under a painted ceiling. Behind it are formal gardens laid out in the French manner with clipped hedges and a pond. The monastery is active and access is by arrangement.

It is a working monastery and access to the library and church is by arranged tour only, not on demand. Tours are in Slovak. The gardens are the more reliably accessible part.
