Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum

Danubiana was built in 2000 on a peninsula at the Čunovo waterworks south of Bratislava, financed by the Dutch collector Gerard Meulensteen and the Slovak gallerist Vincent Polakovič, and its position is the point: the building sits on a spit with the Danube on three sides, shaped something like a Roman galley, with a sculpture park on the grass around it. Exhibitions are modern and contemporary and change several times a year.

When to go

April to October is the best, when the sculpture park and terrace are pleasant. The museum closes on Mondays. The cycle route from Bratislava along the Danube is a good way to arrive.

Getting there without a car means a bus, a seasonal boat or a long bicycle ride. What is showing varies a great deal in interest. The entry price is high by Slovak standards.
