Belianska Cave

Belianska is the only show cave in the Tatras, found in the eighteenth century by treasure seekers and opened to visitors in 1882, with electric light installed as early as 1896. The route climbs through a series of chambers full of dripstone, curtains, columns and pools, with a domed hall used for concerts because of its acoustics. It is a steep visit: over eight hundred steps up and down through the system.

When to go

Year round; the cave holds a constant temperature around six degrees, so a jacket is needed in any season. Tours run to set times and book out in summer. Winter access to Tatranska Kotlina is straightforward.

Honest expectations

Over eight hundred steps make this hard work and it is not suitable for anyone with mobility problems. The cave is cold enough to be uncomfortable in summer clothes. Tours are in Slovak with printed translations.
