River No. 2 Beach

River No. 2 is where a clear river comes out of the peninsula hills and runs across white sand into the sea, and the village at the back has run the beach as a community tourism operation since the 1990s, with income going into local projects. Boats go a short way up the river into the forest. The beach is broad, the water is calm at the river mouth and the hills rise behind. The association was set up in the 1990s and is one of the longest-running community tourism operations in the country.

When to go

November to April is the dry season. The rains from May to October are heavy. Weekends bring visitors from Freetown.

Honest expectations

Facilities are simple bandas and a restaurant. A fee is collected at the gate. The road down is slow and rough in stretches.
