The Mosquée de la Divinité sits at the foot of the cliffs at Ouakam, right on the shoreline, white with green trim and two minarets, with the Atlantic breaking a few metres away. It was built from the 1970s following a vision reported by its founder, and the setting between the cliff and the sea is what makes it: from the beach the mosque stands against black volcanic rock with the Mamelles hills above. The fishing beach beside it works all morning.

When to go
November to May is the dry season. Late afternoon light on the white facade is the best of the day. Friday prayers fill the mosque and visiting then is not appropriate.
Honest expectations
It is an active mosque: modest dress, shoes off, and non-Muslims are generally not admitted to the prayer hall. The approach road down to the beach is rough and the area around is busy. Photography of worshippers needs asking.
