Montale Tunnel and Historic Train
A restored tunnel and carriage from the electric railway that ran to Rimini until 1944.

An electric railway ran from Rimini up to San Marino from 1932 until it was destroyed in 1944 and never rebuilt, and a stretch of it survives: the Montale tunnel below the third tower has been restored and relaid with track, with an original carriage standing in it, and part of the route can be walked. It was one of the more ambitious mountain railways of its period.

When to go
April to October is the main season. Opening hours for the tunnel are limited and vary. The route can be walked year round.
Practical notes
Only a short section is restored and opening hours are limited. Much of the route is overgrown or built over. It is a small site and an hour covers it.
