An electric railway ran from Rimini up to San Marino from 1932 until it was destroyed in 1944 and never rebuilt, and a stretch of it survives: the Montale tunnel below the third tower has been restored and relaid with track, with an original carriage standing in it, and part of the route can be walked. It was one of the more ambitious mountain railways of its period.
