EntryFree

The road onto the St Kitts peninsula climbs over Timothy Hill, and at the top the land narrows to a neck with water on both sides: the Atlantic on the left, dark and rough, and the Caribbean on the right, pale and calm, with Nevis rising across the channel beyond. It is the standard photograph of the island. A viewing platform and parking sit at the top.

What you actually see

  • The two seas - Atlantic on one side and Caribbean on the other from one spot.
  • The narrow neck - the strip of land the road crosses between the bays.
  • Nevis - the neighbouring island rising across the channel.
  • The colour difference - rough dark water against calm pale water.

When to go

December to April is the dry season with the clearest air. Morning light is best on Nevis. Cruise tours arrive through the middle of the day.

Honest expectations

It is a roadside stop and an hour is generous. Tour buses fill the parking at peak times. Vendors at the platform can be persistent.

Nearby

Frigate Bay is north, and the Peninsula beaches are south.
