Getting thereAt the Isautier distillery in Saint-Pierre; road and bus
EntryCharged

La Saga du Rhum is built into the Isautier distillery at Saint-Pierre, a family firm distilling since 1845, and it covers the whole chain: cane growing, the mills, fermentation and distillation, the difference between rhum traditionnel made from molasses and rhum agricole made from fresh juice, and the arrangés, rums steeped with fruit, spices and vanilla that are the island's own drink. A tasting closes the visit.

What you actually see

  • The distillery - the working plant the museum is built into.
  • The still house - the columns and equipment used in production.
  • The rhum arrange - the steeped rums that are the island's characteristic drink.
  • The cane history - the crop and the economy that produced the industry.

When to go

Year round; it is indoors. Distilling runs during the cane season from around July to December. It closes on Sundays and some Mondays.

Honest expectations

The distillery is only running during the cane season and outside it the plant is idle. Labelling is largely in French. The tasting is short and the shop is prominent.

Nearby

Saint-Pierre is around it, and Entre-Deux is north.
