Impfondo

Impfondo sits on the Oubangui in the far northeast of the Republic of the Congo, capital of the Likouala region, which is mostly swamp forest and among the least accessible parts of the country. The river is the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo here and carries the traffic that supplies the town. It is the departure point for Lac Télé and the swamp forest reserve around it.

History

The town was historically called Desbordesville, and it has long been a stopping point for river barges on the way to Bangui; to its west lies the Lac Télé area, among the least developed regions of Africa (Wikipedia, Impfondo).
