EntryFree; closed during nesting season

Fuwairit is a beach on Qatar's northeastern coast backed by low rock outcrops and dunes, and it is the country's main hawksbill turtle nesting site, which means it closes to the public from around April to July while females come ashore and hatchlings emerge. Outside the closure it is one of the better beaches in Qatar, with clean sand and clear water. Rock carvings survive on the outcrops behind.

What you actually see

  • The nesting beach - Qatar's main hawksbill site, monitored each season.
  • The rock outcrops - the low formations backing the beach.
  • The carvings - the marks cut into the rock behind the sand.
  • The clear water - among the cleaner swimming on the Qatari coast.

When to go

November to March is when the beach is open and comfortable. It closes from around April to July for turtle nesting. Weekends bring visitors from Doha.

Honest expectations

The beach closes entirely for several months in nesting season and the dates shift each year. Facilities are minimal. It is an hour and a half from Doha each way.

Nearby

Al Jassasiya is south, and Al Ruwais is west.
