Calle Cerra Street Art

Calle Cerra runs through Santurce, a district that had emptied out as businesses moved, and from around 2010 a public art project called Santurce es Ley began putting murals on the blank walls, bringing artists from the island and abroad each year. The result is a street where most surfaces carry large-scale work, changing as new pieces go up over old ones, with bars, galleries and restaurants that have opened alongside it.

When to go

December to April is the drier season. Daytime is best for seeing the murals; evenings for the bars. New work goes up around the annual festival, usually in the summer.

Before you go

Murals change and pieces you have seen photographed may be gone. Santurce is a working district and some blocks are best not walked alone at night. Parking is difficult.
