Sierpc Village Museum

The Muzeum Wsi Mazowieckiej at Sierpc differs from most Polish open-air museums in how it is arranged: instead of buildings placed in rows for inspection, the farmsteads are set along a village road with fields, gardens, fences and orchards between them, so it reads as a settlement rather than a collection. There are around fifty buildings on about sixty hectares - cottages, barns, a smithy, a windmill, an inn, a school and a wooden church of 1755 with its interior - and the interiors are furnished to specific dates and households rather than generically. Crops are grown in the plots and farm animals are kept, including old Polish breeds, so the place changes through the season. There are events on the farming calendar and craft demonstrations, a manor house, and a hotel and restaurant serving regional food on the site, which is unusual for a skansen.

Honest expectations

Open seasonally with reduced winter access. Some interiors need a guide. The site is large and involves walking. Event days are busy; ordinary weekdays can be very quiet.
