Getting thereHarrison Road, beside Burnham Park, central Baguio; walkable from anywhere in the centre
EntryFree; bring cash in small notes

Every evening from around nine, Harrison Road beside Burnham Park closes to traffic and fills with stalls, running until the small hours. The bulk of it is ukay-ukay - secondhand clothing, which Baguio has traded in since imported bales began arriving through northern ports decades ago, and which the city is known for nationally - laid out on tarpaulins and sold by rummaging, with jackets and boots the sensible buys given the mountain climate. The rest is food: grilled skewers, isaw, kwek-kwek, fishballs, strawberry taho, and the sit-down stalls at the far end serving noodles and rice meals on plastic stools. It is loud, crowded and cold, and it is where Baguio actually goes at night rather than a curated tourist market. Haggling is expected on clothes and not on food. Cash only, small notes, and keep bags in front of you in the crush.

What you actually see

  • The ukay-ukay tarpaulins - secondhand clothing sold by rummaging.
  • The food stalls - skewers, kwek-kwek and strawberry taho.
  • The closed road - Harrison given over to the market each night.
  • The crowd - the city out in the cold after nine.

When to go

Any evening from about nine onward, year-round. Weekends and the March-to-May peak are heaving; weekday nights are more manageable.

Honest expectations

It is crowded and cold - bring a jacket. Cash only, in small notes. Haggle on clothes, not food. Watch your bag in the crush, and expect to rummage rather than browse.

Nearby

Burnham Park is immediately alongside; Session Road runs up from the same corner.
