ESTEC at Noordwijk is the European Space Agency's technical centre - where spacecraft are designed, tested and prepared, with the vacuum chambers, vibration tables and acoustic facilities that every European mission passes through - and Space Expo beside it is its permanent visitor exhibition, opened in 1990. It holds the Soyuz TMA-11M descent module that brought a crew back from the International Space Station in 2014, scorched from re-entry and displayed as it landed, along with a full-size Columbus module mock-up, satellite hardware, a Moon rock on loan from NASA, and material on Dutch astronauts including Andre Kuipers, who flew twice to the ISS. Guided tours into ESTEC itself run on certain dates and must be booked well ahead with identification, and they are the reason many visitors come.

Honest expectations
ESTEC tours run on limited dates, need booking well ahead and require identification - the exhibition alone is a smaller visit. Closed some Mondays. Busy with school groups on weekdays.

Noordwijk beach is west; Keukenhof and the bulb fields are north-east.
