Miffy Museum

Dick Bruna drew nijntje - Miffy in English - in 1955 for his young son, and went on to make over a hundred and twenty books in a style stripped to thick black outlines, flat primary colours and a face of two dots and a cross, which sold tens of millions of copies worldwide and made him one of the most reproduced graphic artists of the century. He lived and worked in Utrecht his whole life and cycled to the same small studio daily. The museum across the street from the Centraal Museum is unusual in being designed for a specific and very young audience: it is aimed at children roughly one to six, everything is at their height, and the rooms are built as places to do things - a house, a traffic square, a hospital, a zoo - rather than displays to look at. Adults are admitted with a child.

Adults are only admitted accompanying a child - it is not a general museum. Timed tickets and it books out at weekends and in holidays. Two hours is the natural length. The Centraal Museum opposite holds more Bruna material for adults.
