Amazigh Heritage Museum

Agadir was destroyed by an earthquake in 1960 and rebuilt entirely, so it has almost no old fabric and few museums; this one exists because Bert Flint, the Dutch scholar who also assembled Maison Tiskiwin in Marrakech, gave a collection to the city. It is small - a few rooms - and focused on the material culture of the Souss and the Anti-Atlas: silver jewellery, in the heavy Amazigh forms with enamel and coral that differ markedly from northern work, carpets and flatweaves, carved granary doors with their wooden lock mechanisms, pottery, leather and household objects, along with some material from further south. The labelling explains what things were for rather than only what they are, which is the useful part. It takes an hour and it is the best available answer to what there is to see in a city with no old town.

It is small and takes an hour. Labelling is in French and Arabic. Opening hours are limited and it closes at lunch. Entry is charged.
