Palikir Pass

Palikir Pass, known to surfers as P-Pass, breaks over the reef off northwestern Pohnpei, a right-hander that runs long and hollow when the north Pacific swell arrives, and it built a reputation through the 2000s that brings people a very long way to ride it. It works on a specific combination of swell and wind, and the reef underneath is shallow and sharp.

What you actually see

• The boat access - the run out from Kolonia or the camp.

When to go

November to March is the north swell season. The wave needs a particular swell and wind combination and can be flat for days. Boat access is required in any season.

Honest expectations

This is an expert wave over shallow sharp reef and it is not for intermediate surfers. It can be flat for a week at a time. Access is by boat only and camps book out in season.
